About the Program
Did you know nearly 15% of children in the Lindbergh School District and 40% in the Mehlville School District receive free or reduced lunches each year? Some of these families need only moderate assistance to subsidize weekly costs. But outside of school, many of these children worry about where their next meal will come from. This is especially true on the weekends.
After recognizing this need, the Crestwood-Sunset Hills Rotary Club established the Feed the Knowledge program in 2013. Through relationships with the district school counselors, students needing assistance were identified. During the first year, Rotarians provided weekend meal bags to 25 students at 2 elementary schools. Since then the program has grown to nearly 200 students at over 15 schools during the 2019-2020 school year and continues to grow.
"I am so thankful for the partnership between Lindbergh School District and Feed The Knowledge. It is such a relief to know my students are going home with food. After sending the weekend bag home, I know that there will be food in the pantry for my students and they will not go hungry! Thank you so much for fulfilling this basic need for our students! The Long family is forever grateful!"
Counselor, Long Elementary School
The goal of Feed the Knowledge is to provide nutritious, kid-friendly, easy to prepare weekend food bags which are discreetly distributed to the students each Friday prior to school dismissal. A critical component to maintaining a healthy childhood is nutrition. Proper nutrition is important to establishing and maintaining a good foundation for a child's physical and mental health, academic achievement, and productivity. With your help, the Crestwood-Sunset Hills Rotary Club can grow this program and help curb child hunger in our own community!
In addition to providing weekend meals, Feed the Knowledge also partners to provide these same children with other essential supplies we take for granted.
These programs include: Operation Warm, Hygiene Care, School Supplies and support to Lindbergh Lights the Way.

Putting together kid-friendly, non-perishable weekend meal bags can be quite the challenge. Here is what a typical bag would contain:
We provide over 100 coats along with hats and gloves to the children in greatest need to help keep them warm throughout winter.
We supply children with basic hygiene items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes and more!
Each year we provide over $1,000 worth of school supplies including crayons, markers, notebooks, binders, scissors and pencils.
